I’m so excited about our collaboration with Anne Temple Smith, owner of Corner Gallery. Anne & I met months ago while she was in Birdie James. We had a quick chat about being women entrepreneurs and said we hoped one day we’d collaborate. As we went back to our respective offices, we began to follow one another’s businesses via social media. I’ve been loving being an Insta-witness to her gallery and its artists; she has a knack for transforming her space from gallery to workshop to dinner party. Then one morning, first up in my Insta-feed were these very simple, whimsical ink drawn flowers on paper. Lots of them. And when I learned that they were the product of Anne attempting to go from unstuck to forward moving, I was captured. What a beautiful message, and the product so real and raw.
I could empathize with how this little flower got to paper. I have this process, too. But for me it manifests itself through me in Birdie James with 15 hangers on one arm, 3 candles in the other, and a space filled with clients not sure what my next move is. A stressful moment yes, but feeling your way out of that moment and becoming unstuck is such a cool feeling. It’s in that moment that I feel like an artist. Birdie James is a large and fresh space, and since our space is a part of our charm (winky face), I am constantly working to keep it how it should be. The whole process is sort of like my little ink drawn flower…
More about Anne Temple Smith:
Anne studied art history in college and spent a semester in Vienna, Austria where she developed a deep love for art. She was fascinated by it all, the colors, techniques, subject matter, art mediums. One day, she transformed a run-down vacant spot into the bright and cheerful Corner Gallery in Norfolk, VA. In addition to having full walls, she hosts private dinner parties and workshops. Soon you will find Anne’s little ink drawn flowers in Birdie James. They’ll be incorporated into our space as if they’ve always been, and they’ll be for sale. So that you, too, can share in our experience of becoming unstuck…
