It’s time for the question of the year…what are the color trends SS17? And we’ve got the details…
The color trends [projected from the Pantone color scale] are niagara, primrose yellow, lapis blue, flame, island paradise, pale dogwood, greenery, pink yarrow, kale, and hazelnut. So, just about every color. The more interesting trend happening is that formalwear and casualwear couldn’t be more opposite. If you’ve been paying attention to the fashion reports and couture shows, you’re familiar with soft, nude-like tones with gobs of embellishments, fringe, plunging necklines, and any other way to make it ultra-fem. Casual style trends seem to be contradictory with primary colors in solids, stripes, and florals. As for us, we’ll stick to our staples of crisp whites, soft greys, and taupe, and then we’ll mix it up with neutral stripes, chambray, peach, aqua, periwinkle, and other soft colors.
Many of the style trends are carrying over from last year…off-the-shoulder, cold shoulder, bell sleeves in check, plaid, and floral. It’s anything but subdued. We’ll see loose fitting trousers and jumpsuits again, too. We love this style because it offers a relaxed silhouette that’s timeless. A Birdie favorite is to mix prints with your staples. You’ll have endless possibilities by mixing up your pairings. We suggest a floral printed top with a basic skirt or pant and an off color shoe. Top it off with a statement earring and a few Julie Vos bangles, and you’re out the door. Oh, and the off-the-shoulder tops have weaseled their way into Birdie James. We refused this trend last season, but the style has been taken up a notch to tres chic. I mean if our coveted Inae Collection does it, we listen.
