1. THROW ON A LONG DUSTER. VERY LONG.
Long were the days of Mama [from Mama’s Family] donning a floral zip-up duster. And sporting one doesn’t mean it’s time for bed. We’re seeing ’em everywhere now and each time you think to yourself, she looks soooo cool, and ain’t that the truth! She looks and feels so chic, too. This trend is great for any age or shape so long as it hits the right spot. It’s ideal when it hits you somewhere in the calf section of your leg (on most women, where your leg begins to get thinner). Wear it open for movement or add your favorite belt to tailor your style. And for an ultra chic and elongating look, pair the duster with similar tones to keep it neutral and monochromatic.
2. LARGE, DARK SPECTACLES.
Yep. Just like Iris Apfel. If you’re not as adventurous as she, go with a more understated look being mindful of two things – keep ’em dark (black or tortoise) and have the frame match your face shape. I know, I know, it never ends…we even have to get the right fit in a frame! Our favorites are from Warby Parker and they’ve got a try-on program so that you can try different styles at home before you buy them. Just saw a local favorite, Joni Vanderslice [of jbanks Design], sporting a dark pair of spectacles during a speech for “Small Business Week” and she rocked the look. The addition gives a little bit of edge. A little bit of chic. And suddenly, you’re pulling off elegant.
3. WIDE LEG PANTS. AND EVEN BETTER, CULOTTES.
A must do for almost any occasion, and the perfect summer style. There’s nothing worse than trying to dress accordingly to the hot summer heat. This is what makes a wide leg so amazing for summer. You’ll get comfort, movement, and chic all thrown into one. Pair with a top that hits right at the waist for a more tailored look. The key here is for the shirt to land on the pant before it begins to widen. If you’re going for more of a high fashion style, then pair a longer shirt, tunic, or dress over the pant and you’ll be runway chic!
